Missing Voices/Dawn Chorus

What would the world be like if women had been equally represented in climate negotiations and at COP? ‘Missing Voices / Dawn Chorus’ from the SHE Changes Climate Collective answers this question, immersing audiences in a sound shower that combines the voices of  women who represent the missing voices from all previous COPs and the 26th COP.

Listeners of the sound showers hear a chorus that is emerging with a new dawn, a new day; clamouring to be heard and bringing new perspectives, new joy and new hope. The chorus shares the hopes of women and why including women’s perspectives would be so powerful in furthering the safety and future of us, our children and our planet.

Using the voices of 26 women driving climate solutions, 13 sound showers rain down on anyone who stands directly beneath the sound channel. As listeners move from the centre of the showers, the voices recede, showing how easily women’s voices can fade into the background when not given a central stage.

My artistic selection, such as a poetry recital by Meera Dasgupta, the youngest National Youth Poet Laureate, reflected current socio-cultural movements: celebrating the feminine, the diverse, the resilient, and the collaborative, and required a holistic approach to the arts.
