Wildbiome Project
April–June 2025
The Wildbiome Project is a pioneering citizen science study exploring how an exclusively wild diet affects the human gut microbiome. Participants, including myself, sourced all our food through foraging, hunting, and fishing, while researchers analysed changes in our gut microbiomes before, during, and after the programme.
For three months, I lived inland in West Sussex, eating a diet of wild game, freshwater fish, mushrooms, berries, nuts, and spring greens. The experience became the foundation for Chapter Six in my book: ‘INTRA ’, which explores community, craft, and the passing of ecological knowledge through generations.
At its heart was the simple idea that the health of our guts and the health of our soils are not separate, but part of the same living system. Our relationship with the land ultimately becomes a relationship with the microbial worlds within us, and vice versa.

This year (2026), we are repeating the project in September whilst living in community in Scotland.
