KIT ONDAATJE ROLLS


Kit Ondaatje Rolls is a biodesigner, fungi researcher, and author. She holds a BA in Sociology & Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh and an MA in Biodesign from Central Saint Martins, where she specialised in mycelium-based materials and regenerative design. Her graduate project, ‘Blimey! Algae Vodka,‘ won the Maison/0 × LVMH × MA Biodesign Award and was exhibited at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Marseille.

Following graduation, Kit spoke at COP26 alongside CONFENIAE representative Verónica Inmunda and rockstar Brian Eno, and was the Women For Change keynote speaker at ChangeNOW 2022 in Paris. She later ran her own lab/studio at Bristol Fungarium, where she developed mycelium-based materials and helped expand public understanding of medicinal mushrooms.

In 2025, Kit completed the Wildbiome Project, a citizen-science study exploring the effects of an exclusively wild diet on the human gut microbiome. She later founded the London Native Fungi Library, a living genetic archive of medicinal mushroom strains from Greater London, which forms the basis of her company, FFUNGA Native.

Her latest book, ‘FUNGI: Creatures & Cultures‘ (Watkins, 2026), is a highly visual exploration of the extraordinary ways fungi intersect with human life, spanning science, food, medicine, art, folklore, materials, culture, and the environment.

Kit's work bridges art, ecology, and culture, exploring how fungi can reshape our relationships with ourselves, others, and the natural world.
